The Lopez Museum and Library art collection focuses on Philippine art from the 19th - 21st centuries.  Significant among its holdings are the paintings and drawings by 19th century masters Juan Luna and Felix R. Hidalgo which include some of their most important works as well as studies for these masterpieces and their early experimentations as students.

Pampanga native, LIBORIO "GAT" T. GATBONTON (23 June 1914 - 5 May 1976), was a noted cartoonist and caricaturist who obtained his formal artistic schooling from the University of the Philippines School of Fine Arts. He worked for the Roces-owned TVT (Tribune-La Vanguardia-Taliba) chain of newspapers where he honed his skills as a cartoonist.

Propaganda Posters

World War 2 turned Manila and the Philippines into a battleground between the military forces of the USAFFE and the Japanese Imperial Army. Winning the war was not just about fighting in the field, however. It was also a battle for the hearts and minds of Filipinos. Propaganda posters with catchy slogans and patriotic images were churned out in an attempt to sway people over to either side.
